| Contino, a profesion, a working land |
The Contino wines are produced solely from the vineyards on the estate; 62 hectares located within a meander of the river Ebro near the village of Laserna and close to the town of Laguardia in the province of Rioja Alavesa.
In 1973 Contino established the concept of the 'Bordeaux Chateau' in Rioja. This historic estate which maintained the traditional rustic local style of its buildings with up to date installations for making classic wines with distinctive character.
The name Contino derives from the Contino Pedro de Samaniego. The distinction of 'Contino' was awarded to each of the centenary of soldiers who acted as Life Guards to the monarch and his family.
