Cune Winery features Eduardo Chillida Exhibit

11 Aug 2015

Volume and texture are two essential qualities to fully experience, both a good wine and a fine piece of sculpture. Pleasure, taste and style lay right there. And it is precisely that bond that the show “Chillida. El viento que no vemos” (Chillida. The wind that we do not see”), at CVNE wineries, aims to further explore, from April 9 till September.

Founded 135 years ago in La Rioja, CVNE winery will present eight sculptures, –five of them monumental in size–, made by the revered Basque abstract artist, in the last two decades of his life. The materials are, on the one side, steel, alabaster, sandstone, and soil; on the other, grapes, wood, glass, brick and steel.
The dialogue between the space and the work, between Chillida and CVNE has an excellent starting point: there’s a shared idiosyncrasy, a sober mood charged with meaning, and a respect and appreciation of Nature, of what simple things and actions can reveal, of slow motion. Everyday simplicity is not only authentic, but it can also be exquisite. This show underscores, like “the wind that we do not see” subtle though nonetheless, obvious connections.

His works of art are present in the most important museums and art compilations throughout the world and his sculptures are placed seafront as in San Sebastian or in cities such as Washington, Paris, Lund, Munster, Madrid, Helsinki, Basel, Palma de Mallorca, Guernica or Berlin. Architects, mathematicians and philosophers such as Martin Heidegger and Emile Cioran and poets such as Octavio Paz have written about his work.

Guests are invited to roam the beautiful vineyards and gardens at the Cune Winery and enjoy the collection of sculptures carefully positioned throughout the estate. Continue your tour by visiting the Cune Wine Cellar for a glass of Cune Reserva. There will be two types of visits to view the exhibition:
